and this was just one round

The moral of the story is: don't put your card behind the bar and then proceed to get drunk.

Or alternatively: Don't put your card behind the bar and proceed to get drunk ON LOTS OF COCKTAILS. I reckon if you'd just drunk lots of beer your bill may have been considerably less. No?

Ah, but it wasn't me who was drinking the cocktails!

Just the one glass of house red for you then Dan, eh? I'm thoroughly sceptical I'm sorry to say.

On the above evidence, I think we should go out for a drink sometime . . .

Though not at the above establishment. The vodka is well over-priced, and the soda is extortionate.

I actually remember buying a whole bottle at one point, although I don't seem to have been charged, which is nice.

Actually, it was a really nice place, I'd recommend it. You can book a little balcony out the back that overlooks a huge Gattaca-esque courtyard with fountains and glass elevators, it's really lovely.

As it turns out, a photo was taken that night, explaining why I spent so much:

Crikey. Who are the laydeez?

Well the one screaming is my mate Anouska, and all the other ones were her attractive friends and flatmates.

You never invite me out when you meet girls.
